For this project, I wanted to explore my identity as a Mexican American. Which I was inspired by José Guadalupe Posada, a Mexican artist known for his bold, high contrast lithographs and woodblock prints. I really liked how his work mixes playful, symbolic imagery with a strong sense of story, it’s simple but really powerful.
For my design, I built a rough background using layers of ripped posters from around Chicago, giving it a gritty, urban texture. I also included a sun and moon, like the ones in Mexican Lotería games, to connect it back to my culture. By mixing Posada’s style with the textures of the city and these cultural symbols, I created a piece that feels like both me and the world I live in.
